Rice Has Thrilling Weekend in Her #18 Porsche 911 at the 2017 CanAm Challenge

(Toronto, ON) Lindsay Rice set out to compete in the 2017 CanAm Challenge this past weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

The event, hosted by Porsche Club Racing, is one that Rice took home two podium wins in just last year in her Porsche 911. Categorized in GTB1 class, and packed with 325HP of power and lots of seat time at this track, Rice placed herself in a position to succeed for the second consecutive year.

The weekend started off questionably, with tornado warnings across the region and intermittent rain throughout the planned practice day on Friday. Similar weather continued into early Saturday morning, which Lindsay was set to run her first race of the weekend.

“We saw some pretty bad skies,” states Lindsay Rice. “We were rained out partly on Friday, so I didn’t get much practice time in. On Saturday we raced in torrential downpour conditions – not ideal, but it was still very fun. We did well in the rain.”

The young driver took home a fourth place in race one for her team Rice Racing. She also brought home the Hard Charger title for advancing 12 spots throughout the duration of the race to her final position of 15th overall.

“It was all about keeping the car steady and balanced in the rain.” Rice states, “However, I really couldn’t do a lap without hydroplaning. That was how bad it was out there.”

Saturday afternoon Rice was headed to the race circuit for her second sprint race of the weekend.

“My second race of the weekend began perfectly.” The driver states, “I had an amazing start and advanced a few spots from my qualifying of 5th in class. Then, unfortunately, the race was interrupted twice by incidents and we were under caution for 15 minutes total.”

Rice had the advantage on the re-start by being one of the first cars behind the pace car. Unfortunately, on the first lap after the green flag, Rice was hit on her left rear fender at the top of turn four and spun out; she was unable to re-join the field due to a flat tire from the incident.

“It was unfortunate to be in an incident like that. We were having a great race and this hit came from nowhere. I am OK and so is my car, luckily. We will be able to race at the Grand Prix Trois-Rivieres this upcoming weekend.”

Rice is set to contend in her fifth race weekend of 2017 at the famous Grand Prix Troi-Rivieres this weekend with Canadian Touring Car Championship. She will begin the weekend competition with a night race on Friday, August 11th at 8PM. Race two and three are at 9:45AM and 4:20PM on Saturday, August 12th.
